Founded before 1895, Glendower Ladies College, was
housed in one of the Porritt houses at 34, North Promenade, St.Annes and
the principals, were the Misses Bayley.
About 1905, a pupil committed suicide by
poisoning herself with acid. Her ghost is said to roam the corridors.
By 1910, the school had closed and the building
became the Glendower Apartments (later the Glendower Hotel).
About 1986, when Peter Haworth purchased the
hotel a large amount of school furniture was still stored in the
cellars.
