 War Memorial Construction.

1924 


The last stages in the building of the War Memorial Monument in the Ashton Gardens, St. Anne's (the gift of the Rt. Hon. Lord Ashton) when the crowning stones were placed in position, and the female figure, typifying the birth of a new life after the hard and fierce struggles of warfare, was hoisted and secured by a steel rod to the topmost stone.
The photographs show :

(1) laying the last stone;

(2) placing the steel rod in position to receive the figure

(3) the crowning figure being hoisted up the side of the monument

(4) lowering the figure into position ; and (centre) the female figure before her ascension.


The monument was unveiled on Sunday October 12th 1924, by the Mayor of Lytham St. Annes.
