Blackpool Gazette & News, February 22nd 1895
The purchase of the Clifton Arms
Hotel has been completed, the purchaser being Mr. Wilson, of the
Newton Heath Brewery. At one time it was thought that the negotiations would fall
through, but wiser counsels prevailed, and the bargain was struck on Friday last to
the great delight of all Lythamites.
There is no questioning the fact that there is money in the
hotel, and the surprise was very great at the reserve price being declared at
£6,500 at the sale, and no one offering that amount.
The new proprietors are expected to do much to make the hotel
popular with the visitors, and much can be done by the hotel proprietors to bring
Lytham to the fore as a seaside resort.
