The Langdales Hotel opened in the 1970s; before then the terrace of four houses were separate boarding houses. The Spearman family have owned the hotel since the late 1990s and further enlarged the hotel  about 2002 with the purchase of the adjacent building,  previously Berkeley Lodge Nursing Home.
