The death of 16 year-old John Ormond of Wrea Green at Kirkham Windmill in
1847.
ACCIDENTAL DEATH
An inquest was held yesterday, at Kirkham, before R. Palmer,
Esq., coroner, on the body of John Ormond.—Robert Ormond, of Ribby-with-Wray, said
the deceased was his nephew, and was about 16 years old. He worked at a mill in
Kirkham, and on Wednesday morning last, about ten o'clock, as he was going out of
the mill, one of the sails of the mill hit him on the head and knocked him
down.
Witness went up to him and lifted him up, when he found that he
had received a severe wound on the right side of the head, from which the blood was
flowing. The mill was stopped, and the deceased carried into it. He did not speak,
but was quite insensible.
Mr. Gradwell, a surgeon, attended him, and bled him; but he died
at about nine o'clock on Wednesday evening, from the injuries which he had
received. A verdict was returned of " Accidental death."
